I’m not an addict (maybe that’s a lie)
We each have something to which we are addicted.
For Jennifer Connelly, it was whoring herself for heroin. For Robert Palmer, it was love. And for Fiona Apple, it was writing really pathetic poetic songs that made college girls want to kill themselves.
For me, among many other things (see Dodgers, photography, and coin-flipping) it’s blogging:
Thanks to Not So Little Woman for this one.
Janet at Love is Blonde wrote a pithy comment last week that resonated with me when she asked whether she should avoid fantasy football this season: “…am I already overbooked on life?”
Lately, I’ve been feeling like I’ve been spreading myself too thin, signing up for this and that on the web, wanting to see friends and hang out with The Princess, watching movies, listening to music, reading all the books I want, talking to my family, planning trips abroad, kicking ass at my new job, playing softball, taking weekends in NYC, improving my blog, etc. In short, becoming overbooked on life.
No? Everyone’s like this? I should stop whining? Ok, good.
Here are some things I’ve been overbooking on addicted to recently:
GoodReads
Imagine if Facebook, Netflix, and Amazon had a dirty threeway only no one’s feelings were hurt for feeling left out of the proverbial orgy. If you can imagine that, you’re sick.
43 Things
What do you want to do with your life? Well, don’t tell me, tell this Web site and maybe you’ll figure out how to turn your sad life into an interesting one. One of my 43 things is “Bang Natalie Portman”.
Ohad’s amazing photos and photoblog
If I could create the ideal photoblog without having to try too hard, this would be it. Ohad’s photos are vivid and creative and his presentation is as close to perfect as I have seen. Check out, in particular, his “miniature effect” of scenes, like this one taken at a baseball game.
Travel Buddy
Imagine if MySpace and “travel blogging” got it on because they weren’t invited to the dirty threeway with GoodReads. Plan your trips and get great advice and reviews from people who live in places you want to visit or have traveled there and not had their wallet stolen.
Paintball: The Game
I dare you to click on this, play one round, and quit. If you can do it, I’ll pretend you’re my friend the next time we hang out.
Pole to Pole
It’s not what it sounds like. I mean, it might be, but not as far as I can tell. If you ever wondered what it would be like to travel from the North Pole to the South Pole using only natural power and blog about it, this is the site for you. The Web design and customizations alone are worth the click.
Online cartoons
The first one has been cracking me up all week and has even inspired an idea for me and Chosang to create our own comic strip. It would be called Tyrone Goldstein and would be about a black Jew studying for his Bar Mitzvah. The second cartoon is pretty self-explanatory: left-handed ‘toons drawn by right-handed people.
In case you were feeling underbooked on life, click on some of these links and get busier. Or share what you’re addicted to these days.
Just don’t say Fiona Apple.

Porn and reading your blog. What can we do to combine the two?
August 15th, 2007 at 8:54 am
And holy crap, I commented before I-66!!!
August 15th, 2007 at 8:56 am
I gotta say, that Good Reads site is faaaabulous.
August 15th, 2007 at 9:02 am
GoodReads makes me wish I had more time. Or a faster reading rate. Or a trust fund so I could buy everything on my ever-expanding Amazon wishlist. It’s your fault. And Jo’s. And Carrie M’s. Damn you and your fascinating book lists….

Thanks for the credit! It’s a pleasure to see that my idle time blogging doesn’t go wasted. Hehe.
I’m on GoodReads too. Fuckin’ brilliant.
My other addictions are superficial, I think. I read Entertainment Weekly from cover to cover as soon as I get it in the mail, I am faithfully devoted to TNT’s The Closer and Bravo’s Top Chef; and finally, I can´t seem to get out of the Harry Potter craze. I´m now re-reading the whole series.
I am SOOO lame.

I’m so glad the GoodReads addiction finally saw the light of day. I knew you would admit to it eventually.
Soon I can either leave you with some of my addictions or just post them on my own blog.
Figure the odds…

I feel you on being overbooked with life, brother. Time management is now key for me if I’m not about to get sunk by the combination of running three blogs, taking over reigns of the Oneonta poetry scene (along with Diabolical) and attempting to maintain my retarded social schedule. Let alone keep up with any kind of culture, pop or otherwise.
For the record, it’s not everyone - just the motivated kids. Or ones that get bored easily. (see: me)

Two things:
1) I am less addicted to blogging (57%) than Arjewtino. Contrubuting factor: I elected not to blog about taking the survey, instead opting to comment.
2) I AM now addicted to getting that little red ball to the bigger red square. Damn you.

Bastard - I just wasted a good chunk of my morning to that stupid paint ball game. Thanks a lot!

I have a whole section of links dedicated to online comics of which I spend far too much time laughing over. I’d try “Kawaii not” for a good laugh. Or White Ninja.
Thanks for those links! I’ve been looking for something else to waste my time on besides CSS, blogging, Facebook, and MySpace (when it allows me to log in).
Btw, one more thing to try to stretch yourself thin over- dance party on Saturday. Info @ my blog. If you make it you won’t have to wear the fanny pack @ an HH. Just all night at the dance party. I’ll take lots of pictures.

Oh, and thanks a hell of a lot for getting that song stuck in my head. Doo do doo do doo do.
August 15th, 2007 at 10:39 am
Not that I have to take credit for my good deeds… but seriously Jess, Jo? I don’t get any credit for Good Reads? Not even a shout out? Come ON…
I have one brilliant discovery every few months - let me bask in the glow pour favor.

oh dear god. how could i forget you, mandy? uhm, arjew, can you edit my post to insert ‘mandy’ in an obvious, magazine-letter-cutout way?
August 15th, 2007 at 12:27 pm
Hi,
I went to the 43 things and signed up. It’s really cool.
Here’s my like if you’re interested. http://www.43things.com/person/KimE2000

I heart goodreads.com! Thank you Mandylou! And um, Jess and the Princess put me to shame with the amount of books they’ve read. SHAME.
So Arjewtino, you and the Princess don’t want to kayak this weekend since you’ve got so many online endeavours?
August 15th, 2007 at 12:57 pm
I am 61% as well
August 15th, 2007 at 1:03 pm
Um, I love Fiona Apple.
Great links. Now I have new ways to entertain myself at work.
August 15th, 2007 at 1:53 pm
By the way, that song is fucking kick ass. K’s Choice - good shit.
And screw everyone else, I want to take credit for not introducing you to GoodReads, but jumpstarting you actually doing anything on it.
Hope you feel better soon, buddy. Let me know if I can do anything.

I’m not even going to take that test as I fear the results…
August 15th, 2007 at 10:41 pm
eh hem…. muchos gracias for the shout outs miss carrie and dear jess.
now… tell me what i should read next…
August 16th, 2007 at 10:14 am
Flight of the Conchords on HBO (hilariousity)
Lost & Heroes (YES still)
Subversive Indie or Foreign Films (not gore–more weird films and its been a decade long obsession)
Paolo Nutini & James Morrison albums (again long lasting)
Peaches (not the fruit, the singer/rapper etc). She is hilarious
A Thousand Splendid Suns– beautifully written and one of the most touchingly sad books ever written. And disturbing. Very disturbing.
PS–Only 51% addicted to blogging. Woo hoo!!
August 16th, 2007 at 10:31 am
PS-I too love Goodreads and only now am I getting to editing my own page and updates on there…too busy with my addiction to Facebook.
And ps–I love Fiona. Don’t front.

Glad I could get you hooked on Travbuddy. I feel as though I must plan more trips after this one because of that site. As if seven weeks in seven countries isn’t enough….. sigh.

Does it confirm that I am overbooked on life that I am commenting on this post ohhhh TWO WEEKS LATE? I’ve been on vacation, and it’s oh so nice. And when I get back, I totally do not have time for any of those links
