The birthday presents keep coming
Goodbye old friend. I mean, banner
Do you ever get tired of looking at your ugly mug everyday in the mirror? I don’t, but I hear some people do so I can empathize with that feeling.
I think it’s kind of like looking at your same blog everyday. Just sitting there, being the same, bringing joy and laughter to everyone else but you.
So I decided, as an extension of Arjewtino.com’s one-year anniversary, to make some theme changes. (I had originally planned to use a completely different theme that I thought was more versatile but Roosh, who helped me start up this blog and fielded so many of my inane questions with grace, talked me out of it.)
One of the first changes you’ll see is the banner. I used a cool Flickr tool to make mosaics of my favorite photos, some of which I took and some taken by others and which I admire. These photos reflect my culture, my life, and my dudicalness*. You’ll see a different mosaic in the banner under three different tabs (Blog, Archives, and On Being Arjewish).
I also added a new tab to the header – Contact Me. This is a simple form you can use which is sent directly to my e-mail in case you want to tell me how awesome I am or what a vain douchebag I sound like. Along with the My Favorite Photos tab, the Contact Me tab has the same mosaic banner as On Being Arjewish but I’m working on fixing that.
The “new” theme now has two sidebars, which I think makes it easier to navigate and to see content. I have to make the font smaller but the blog is now wider in appearance and more “magazine”-like, which brings me instant cachet.
If you have recommendations for improving the blog, or want some advice on how to enhance your own, let me know (see snazzy new Contact Form). I want to keep developing this blog’s appearance while making no notable improvements to the quality of my writing.
* If you don’t know what dudicalness is, then you’re not dudical.

Don’t be silly. No one comes here for the writing!
They come here for the witty comments by Arjewtinophiles.
And the headers. So, good job on that!
Ok, awesome, I was beginning to think I might have to start, you know, writing good.

I take it the third shot from the left on the banner is an authentic photo taken on a field in Buenos Aires, where the players are so good they look like digital renderings of themselves.
Or like miniature Maradona toys.

Love the banner. Your side bars look a little messy though.
Send me an e-mail (see Contact Form) and give me a further explanation. Or e-mail me. Or write on my Facebook wall. Jo.

oh i do love the baseball photo.
my blog now has an inferiority complex. but, being catholic, it wasn’t a far fall…
i especially like the flickr banner. can you tell me how to do that?
The baseball photo is awesome; the only thing I don’t like about it is that I didn’t take the shot.

Um…I’m pretty sure asserting your own dudicalness thereby nullifies and inherently destroys all said dudicalness.
Lame, David Silver, lame.
You’re so young, son, you don’t know what dudicalness is. Awesomeness and coolness are negated when you assert them for yourself. Dudicalness carries an implied sense of misguided vanity, which I have in spades.

how about instead of you helping me spruce up my blog, you just do it for me?
One of these days I need to get around to it, but I’m scared I am going to totally break everything.
That’s the great thing about Wordpress, it’s really hard to break your blog (unless you upgrade to a newer Wordpress version). I’m not exactly a CSS expert but I’ll help you if I can. Just let me know what you want to do (theme change, layout change, etc.).

man, i have been out of the game….but happy anniversary. the traditional gift for a first anniversary is paper…which i guess isn’t useful for a blog. but as someone who covets stationery i would highly suggest Crane or Kate Spade
You cover stationery? Wow, you might be the first one I’ve met who does.

29. Pic #s 3&4 on your banner are pure awesome.
Yeah, they are. Not mine.
August 2nd, 2007 at 11:22 am
I definitely covet stationery. Current favorites are Mark Rothko and Kate Spade.
Go ahead, grampa, judge away.
PS I can’t decide if you should be David Silver, the lame, Jewish guy, or Andrea Zuckerman, the horrendously old, Jewish loser. I’m leaning towards Andrea.
But then I think of how hot she was, and it doesn’t do you justice. Decisions…decisions….
That’s a tough call. I’m leaning toward Andrea because, like me, she had an obvious crush on Brandon. Also, I don’t like rap and David Silver did.

Dudical? More like doody-cal!
And suddenly, I’m a nine year-old.
Suddenly?

Congrats on the one year, good sir. Redesign’s looking good.
Thanks, dude.

This is totally not about your snazzy new layout at all. But I do think it’s nice.
You know EL Guapo in DC?! My of my friends is super into him in a somewhat creepy way. Don’t worry, he knows. What a small little blogger world…
Yeah, that is creepy. But flattering.

I’m kinda sad to comment b/c then I’ll have more than 69 comments. But we all know I can’t keep my mouth shut (that’s what she said…).
Anyway. When opening my bloglines I thought for a slightly mortifying moment that the photo you got for your birthday was going to go public. Although that’s probably more embarassing for Kelsey…
So you’ve just given me implied consent, right? Awesome.
August 2nd, 2007 at 2:47 pm
if you want an implied foot up your ass, then yes.
That’s always implied.
I hope that’s not the last time that “Carrie M” and “69″ are ever together.

I can totally relate. I think I’ve changed my blog like 7 times since I started it in January 2006.
I like your new banner but I also like your old one too … make sure that it gets resurrected eventually …
I doubt I’ll br bringing it back. It was great to use but it’s retired.
I’ll be making new banners with different photos, though, from time to time.

I don’t know how I feel about the sidebar.
Hi! I’m popping up out of nowhere to tell you this. I suck!
Oh, but I’m LOVING the new banner. Let me know if you want to make me one.
I’ll make you one. Just tell me how long (in pixels) your banner is and, depending on the size, just need five or six photos you’d like to use.
August 2nd, 2007 at 4:29 pm
I love the shots in your banner. Do you mind if I ask what’s your camera? The thing is, I only have a point-and-shoot camera, so, you know how it’s like.
Regarding my banner, thanks! However, I didn’t make it. I just got it from a website that offers blog templates. You can get the address from the bottom of my blog.
Finally, I guess you already have seen me in your Sitemeter account. I’ve been stalking this blog for a while now, I forgot how I found it, and I like what I am reading. Hope you don’t mind.
Do I mind being e-stalked? Of course not, I’m used to it. But if you show up at my house my girlfriend will kick your ass. Or you guys will end up drinking champagne and watching Grey’s Anatomy.

Since blogs - as a name and concept - are more or less retarded, how about you take this one-year anniversary opportunity to call it your “website.”
If I did, you’d call me a pretentious idiot who’s in denial that he has a blog.

I’ve never been able to design my own funky banner. It shits me that I’m so technologically inept. Ugh.
Your Australian sayings make me laugh.

Change is good for the soul. Like everyone else I love the banner. That baseball photo is hot. Maybe I need to change the look of my blog yet again…
Yeah, I love that photo of the baseball. I have no idea where he found the 3D Star of David, though, that’s pretty cool.
August 3rd, 2007 at 10:57 am
I’m surprised you don’t have a photo of Alyssa Milano in your new header mosaic.
Great idea! That’ll be on my next banner.
August 3rd, 2007 at 11:12 am
I would like to see a picture of the Falkland Islands.
Another great idea. But they’re called Islas Malvinas, you Anglophile.
August 5th, 2007 at 5:43 pm
how awesome that I round out the bottom of the top commenters! though I’m not sure what that says in the end….
August 6th, 2007 at 12:49 am
H - I’m going to use your “round out the bottom of the top” statement in my thesis somewhere. For some reason it amuses me greatly. I have a simple mind…
E, I think “Round out the Bottom” should be the name of H’s blog. Or the title of your thesis.
August 6th, 2007 at 4:27 pm
That will go on the list as title suggestion #2 for my dissertation (or was that suggestion for E’s diss?) but so far I think the first suggestion is way better:
The Importance of Chex Mix for Understanding the Dynamics of Sports during the Cold War
Besides…. how can I name a blog if I don’t really have one?
You do have a blog, just not here. And it’s a travel blog. And it’s only visible to people you know. That kind of sucks.
