Welsh Clogau gold comes from the Clogau St. David’s gold mine in North Wales. The gold from this mine is exceptionally beautiful, but because of the location of the mine, the gold is difficult to extract and the mine exhausted, making it both rare and valuable. Wedding bands made out of Welsh gold have made an appearance at many royal weddings. When Edward Prince of Wales was crowned in 1911, his coronet was made entirely from Clogau gold. In 1947, Prince Phillip gave Queen Elizabeth II a ring made out of this Welsh gold at their wedding at Westminster Abbey. Princess Margaret wore a pure gold Clogau band at her wedding in 1960, as did Princess Anne when she got married in 1973.
