When it comes to the sacks of silicone living in Hollywood, their favorite pastime is reminding us off all of the things they can afford that we can’t. Why have all that money if you can’t make other people feel bad about themselves? This is the sole reason celebrities get engaged. It always ends up front page news, starting with the bling bling. Here’s a quick look at some of the most outrageous engagement rings in the biz.

When it comes to the biggest rock of all, none top the jewel that Richard Burton gave Elizabeth Taylor (may she rest in peace). The diamond was 33.19 carats and weighed down the entire left side of Elizabeth’s body. The day of her wedding, she dragged her hand down the aisle to say “I do.”

Next comes Jessica Simpson, and I regret to inform that it’s only because her engagement ring is absolutely hideous—three stones with a ruby center. RUBY? WHO proposes with a ruby? And a tiny ruby, too. What’s more, it’s all set on a cheap-looking gold band. Simpson’s fiancé said in a statement: “I realize this ring isn’t the most appealing. I was aiming for the sapphire, but the mechanical claw just wasn’t cooperating.”
